July 16, 2008 - Mock Trauma Scenario in the Medical Tent

Photos of the Day: HMP Mock Trauma Scenario | HMP RS - July 16, 2008

The cooling weather trend has officially begun! It's drizzly with brief moments of real rain. There were two traverses today but I spent the day inside for the most part, editing video in the office tent, and photographing a mock trauma scenario in the relatively warm medical tent, which was actually very interesting.

The mock trauma scenario is lead by Dr. Jean-Marc Comtois (Head, Operational Space Medicine, CSA), and involved telementoring with Vancouver General Hospital as an analog for Moon or Mars explorers encountering an emergency medical situation. In the coming days they will be adding a 20 minute communication delay (somewhere in that ballpark) between "Earth" and "Mars". They have a fairly complex setup, which you can learn more about once I edit the lengthy video interview I did with them. It was a big day for the HMP Project Manager, Nick Wilkinson, who played the part of the pretend patient who had a chest injury, then gave an after dinner lecture on his impressive Traverse Planning Software.

over and out.
