This little buggar was biting Sam in the airport for hours on end. Sam crushed this guy in his hand a few times, but it kept flying off. Angered, Sam finally got the opportunity to stomp on it, full force, and the mosquito was finally flattened. Sam raised his arms as if winning a gold medal and people around us clapped.

We're finally back on the 727, ready to lift off from Iqaluit.
IMG_3296.JPG
And away we go!
IMG_3305.JPG
This is the land of lakes, ponds, streams.. you name it.
IMG_3307.JPG
I was interested in the fanned rows of v-shaped ridges (lower right, and there are more faint, similar shapes. I suppose they may be formed from melting ice running down the sides of a ridge. There will be plenty of geologists on Devon to ask about this.
IMG_3308.JPG
Gotta love that desolate landscape!
IMG_3309.JPG
Naturally circular ponds.
IMG_3311.JPG
Sea ice that is also breaking up into circular shapes.

Anna and Norman Nungaq are sitting next to me on the plane. They know Pascal Lee, and explain that Pascal has been to their home. They live in Resolute and offer me a place to stay if we get stuck in Resolute.
IMG_3313.JPG
Anna explained the words "Inuk" (singlular for someone from the area, "Inuuk" (sounds like a lenthened u, but I'm not sure of the spelling) which means "two Inuks" and "Inuit" which is plural, as in "more than two Inuks".
IMG_3315.JPG
Anna ordered a Jack'n'coke, so I got a gin and tonic. She was happy to have a drinking partner. Resolute is a dry county, so it is common for an Inuk to have a couple/few drinks on the plane on their way home. I think this was our second round, actually.
IMG_3318.JPG
Leaving Iqaluit, on the way to Resolute! We are happy.
IMG_3320.JPG
Enjoying the view.
IMG_3322.JPG
Sea ice.
IMG_3323.JPG
We're coming up on Resolute. We see land again!
IMG_3327.JPG
Beautiful ice patterns.
IMG_3328.JPG
Lowering altitude..
IMG_3330.JPG
Now we can see firsthand why our flight was delayed the first time. The fog is still pretty thick.
IMG_3332.JPG
Chaos at work! This makes for a great desktop background.
IMG_3333.JPG
Wow.
IMG_3337.JPG
I would have thought this was Devon Island if it weren't for the small village on the left.
IMG_3338.JPG
Landing in Resolute. Not a big village! This place is ...elite.
IMG_3340.JPG
Anna and her son, from the airplane, live in the village of Resolute.
IMG_3348.JPG
Moving our luggage to the van.
IMG_3349.JPG
We're driving to a cafeteria to spend some time before our twin otter is ready to take us to Devon Island.
IMG_3350.JPG
This place is beautiful. It could use a touch of cacti here and there though.
IMG_3352.JPG
This reminds me of New Mexico -- even the rocks! -- but this is a Musk Ox!
IMG_3353.JPG
This made us laugh. They need a sign that says "Away from NYC --> this way".
IMG_3354.JPG
Ivan (Discovery Canada), Sam (National Geographic), Addy and Stan (both from Hamilton Sunstrand).
IMG_3355.JPG
Evonne was the van driver. She greeted us as soon as we got off of the plane, and is taking care of us during our very short stay at Resolute. She offers us coffee and donutes inside and we partake.
